The principals were new names to the Gold Cup, but a very familiar profile to the winner, Irish trained for one thing, but above that following on from Yeats (and last year's runner-up Age of Aquarius) as an established classy Ballydoyle inmate reinvented as a stayer; the gallop was steady until halfway, Geordieland's short-lived rush injecting some pace then, though the ground still made the race the proper stamina test it's designed to be, bringing out the best in the second and third, but Fame And Glory was a cut above them all.
