A race that carries plenty of prestige, as well as prize money, and, once again that combination saw some established pattern performers contest this handicap, a couple of them reaching the frame but seen off by an up-and-comer in the form of High Standing, who looks destined for that grade himself; with such a high number of runners there was always going to be some inconvenienced by the draw, and there was a marked bias for all the best horse won, those drawn 1-8 plus Genki, Zidane and Nota Bene in a smaller group against the stand rail, Markab emerging with plenty of credit on that score, whilst those drawn in the middle stayed there for 2f or so, to their detriment as none of them were involved in the finish and 8 of the first 10 home were drawn 20 or higher.
