Plenty of prize money and prestige for the Wokingham, making it an eminent target for the better sprint handicappers, along with some who normally race in a higher grade, standards maintained by this year's field, but of them only a handful were much ahead of their mark, and above that the competition was diluted by the draw, which proved even more significant than normal; the far side was the place to be, the 8 who raced there comprising the first 4 home, having the edge over the main centre-field group, while the trio who kept to the stand rail were well held, and the couple who were ridden to try and combat their draw, Zidane and Burning Incense, were chief among the horses obviously better than the bare result, but many didn't have a hard race as events went, the field finishing strung out.
