So far as Britain and Ireland goes, the current classic crop of colts have looked an ordinary bunch and even though the latest renewal of this mid-season championship contained the winners of the German, Irish and French 2000 Guineas, it didn't look a top-notch affair; ultimately, it turned out a rough, unsatisfactory one too, the runner-up singularly unlucky and without question the best prospect for the future; a fair pace increased off the turn and, up the straight, several looking for runs met trouble.
