Despite the lack of a challenger trained in Ireland or France, a potentially strong renewal of this Group 1 test for older horses, the field, bar Ekraar, all Group 1 winners and representing most parts of the racing world in terms of where their victories had been gained; in the event, some didn't give their running, and outsider Ekraar played a role in the outcome, eventually rushed up from a slow start to harry the favourite Moon Ballad in a race run at a stop-start gallop, his stable-companion then taking up the challenge approaching the turn.
