Despite the defection of half a dozen horses (mainly due to the firm going), notably Nayyir and Captain Rio, this Group One contest still drew one of the strongest fields of sprinters assembled in this country for a while, all bar Steenberg and Orientor previously successful at pattern/graded level; most of the pre-race discussion centered around Airwave, who, with the likes of last year's winner Malhub and Tuesday's Australian-trained King's Stand hero Choisir in opposition, had far more on her plate than the betting alone indicated; yet again it was the horse from 'Down Under' who came up with all the answers, his fine initial pace enabling his jockey to manoeuvre him where he liked and call the shots from a long way out, despite his wide draw; the top 6 left in the draw were led by Choisir up the centre before the winner eased left from halfway.
