Last season, the Coventry Stakes (first Group race for 2-y-o's in the British season) proved a highly significant affair, with Landseer and Rock Of Gibraltar notable runners in a strong line-up; whilst it's probably expecting too much for any of this year's participants to attain the lofty heights that pair have, there's little doubt the latest renewal was up-to-scratch, 14 of the 16 starters winners at least once and the majority of the field lightly-raced sorts open to improvement (11 had raced no more than twice previously); in a well-run affair, 2 of the 3 Irish-trained challengers drew clear in the manner of potentially smart colts.
