A useful and quite valuable contest for this new race at the meeting, though for various reasons not quite so competitive as the large field might suggest; those drawn 26 to 30 raced far side and 18, 19, 21 and 25 initially in the middle, the finish dominated by the majority group on the stand side; the early pace was strong in the main group, enabling horses to come from behind, and those who raced up with it paid the price eventually.
