King George V Stakes 2022 Racecard

The King George V Stakes is a Flat horse race run every year on the third day (Thursday) of the Royal Ascot meeting.

3:05 Thu 16 Jun KING GEORGE V STAKES

Distance: 11f 211y Age: 3yo O Prize: £51,540 Going: Good to Firm

Analyst's Verdict

The manner in which ISRAR won at Newbury suggests he's well ahead of the handicapper, so he gets the marginal vote to go in again in what is usually one of the hottest 3-y-o handicaps of the season. Post Impressionist, Secret State and Mandobi are serious players also.

FORM
SILKS HORSE
JOCKEY & TRAINER

WGT
ODDS
1
jockey silks 1. BERKSHIRE REBEL (IRE)
J: Harry Davies
T: Andrew Balding
3
9-9
Successful debut in 1m Goodwood maiden last August but his limitations have seemingly been exposed since, finishing last of 4 in Chester Vase last time. Hard to make a case for in a race this strong now handicapping.
2
jockey silks 2. YASHIN (IRE)
J: Shane Foley
T: Mrs J. Harrington, Ireland
3
9-9
Has improved with each run and did well to get up from further back than ideal in a handicap at Navan last time. Strongly-run race and step up in trip should suit, so merits strong consideration.
3
jockey silks 3. ISRAR
J: Jim Crowley
T: John & Thady Gosden
3
9-8
Well-bred colt who is still learning but did well to get up close home (from Surrey Mist) in a handicap at Newbury last time. That looks like a strong piece of form and he's open to further improvement, so he's worth chancing.
4
jockey silks 4. MANDOBI (IRE)
J: Tom Marquand
T: William Haggas
3
9-8
Already useful and had plenty in hand when doubling his tally at Thirsk a month ago. Bred to go on progressing and a well-run race is sure to bring more out of him, so he's on the shortlist.
5
jockey silks 5. SECRET STATE (IRE)
J: William Buick
T: Charlie Appleby
3
9-6
Well-bred colt who is two from three and was well on top at the finish at Nottingham last time. The runner-up has already boosted that form and the step up to this trip should bring about more improvement. Lots to like.
6
jockey silks 6. SCHMILSSON
J: David Probert
T: Andrew Balding
3
9-5
Well-related and upped his game to open his account in ready fashion at Bath in May. This is a much more competitive scenario, but he has the potential to do better still.
7
jockey silks 7. MR ALAN
J: Rossa Ryan
T: George Boughey
3
9-5
Useful colt who comes here on the back of a respectable fifth in a listed race at Goodwood. Others look better treated, though. Cheekpieces go on.
8
jockey silks 8. FRANZ STRAUSS
J: Frankie Dettori
T: John & Thady Gosden
3
9-5
Made a winning debut at Newcastle in December. Wasn't up to the Sandown Classic Trial on return and only respectable third in a novice at Nottingham since. Now in cheekpieces switched to handicaps/up in trip.
9
jockey silks 9. FLYING DOLPHIN (IRE)
J: C. T. Keane
T: John Patrick Murtagh, Ireland
3
9-5
Lightly-raced son of Zoffany who landed a 13-runner maiden comfortably at Gowran in May. More required up in trip for handicap debut.
10
jockey silks 10. SURREY MIST (FR)
J: Trevor Whelan
T: George Baker
3
9-3
Boasts a progressive profile and had something to spare when doubling his tally in a Kempton novice in March. Good second to Israr in handicap at Newbury since, and a bold showing seems likely up in trip.
11
jockey silks 11. SAVVY KNIGHT (IRE)
J: James Doyle
T: S. P. C. Woods
3
9-3
Arrives on a roll having readily landed a hat-trick at Hamilton a fortnight ago and, while this is much more competitive, he had any amount in hand that day, so he's dangerous to dismiss.
12
jockey silks 12. NEWFOUNDLAND (IRE)
J: Ryan Moore
T: Aidan O'Brien, Ireland
3
9-3
Hasn't had much racing and overcame difficulties to land a 13f maiden at Navan recently. No surprise if he makes a big impact on this handicap debut.
13
jockey silks 13. ACHNAMARA
J: Joe Fanning
T: Charlie & Mark Johnston
3
9-3
Progressive colt who scored at Beverley in May and put up a bold showing when second to another improver at Doncaster 12 days ago. Back down in trip now, but worth bearing in mind.
14
jockey silks 14. POST IMPRESSIONIST (IRE)
J: Daniel Tudhope
T: William Haggas
3
9-2
Powered away to open his account at Ayr in April then bumped into an excellent prospect at Newcastle last time out. That form has a strong look to it and he will relish this longer trip, so makes plenty of appeal.
15
jockey silks 15. DEAUVILLE LEGEND (IRE)
J: Daniel Muscutt
T: James Ferguson
3
9-2
Confirmed previous promise when landing a maiden at Windsor in April, going away at the finish. That form looks solid and he should benefit from the extra distance now handicapping.
16
jockey silks 16. INVERNESS (IRE)
J: Kieran Shoemark
T: Charles Hills
3
9-2
Opened his account at the second attempt in Goodwood maiden in September and built on that when sixth in 10f listed event at Epsom last month. Needs to take another step forward here, though.
17
jockey silks 17. BALHAMBAR (FR)
J: Richard Kingscote
T: Sir Michael Stoute
3
8-12
Is improving by the run and, while he only just held on to land a maiden at Chepstow recently, he's very much the sort to benefit from this step up in trip in handicaps, so has claims.
18
jockey silks 18. VINA SENA (IRE)
J: Jamie Spencer
T: Henry de Bromhead, Ireland
3
8-11
Winner at Dundalk in December. 28/1, very good 1½ lengths second of 13 to Yashin in handicap at Navan (10f, good) 19 days ago. Progressing and interesting up in trip under Spencer.
19
jockey silks 19. TEUMESSIAS FOX (IRE)
J: Rob Hornby
T: Andrew Balding
3
8-11
Newcastle 10f novice winner who was back on track when runner-up at Salisbury last time. Should be suited by another step up in trip, so can't be discounted.

Betting Forecast : 13/2 6.5 POST IMPRESSIONIST, 8/1 8 SECRET STATE, 9/1 9 ISRAR, 12/1 12 SURREY MIST, 12/1 12 MANDOBI, 14/1 14 NEWFOUNDLAND, 14/1 14 YASHIN, 14/1 14 DEAUVILLE LEGEND, 14/1 14 SAVVY KNIGHT, 22/1 22 FRANZ STRAUSS, 25/1 25 ACHNAMARA, 28/1 28 BALHAMBAR, 33/1 33 SCHMILSSON, 33/1 33 VINA SENA, 33/1 33 FLYING DOLPHIN, 40/1 40 INVERNESS, 40/1 40 TEUMESSIAS FOX, 66/1 66 MR ALAN, 66/1 66 BERKSHIRE REBEL, 498/1 498 WAIT TO EXCEL, 499/1 499 MR BIG STUFF
