Clive Cox’s Zonderland was an impressive winner of a listed race at Sandown last month and connections are now eyeing up another crack at Galileo Gold, having finished sixth behind that horse in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in April.
Cheveley Park’s Chris Richardson said: "He has run twice at Newmarket and he does not like going down the hill there.
"I think Sandown, with its stiff finish, suited him and ideally you would like to think Ascot would as well. He has worked well since his last run at Sandown.
"He is a big horse that needed time, but you could not have asked him to have done it any more impressively at Sandown. It's all systems go for the St James's Palace Stakes now."
Hugo Palmer’s Galileo Gold has since finished behind Kevin Prendergast’s Awtaad in the Irish 2000 Guineas but both horses are expected to clash again, while Aidan O’Brien’s The Gurkha was an impressive winner of the French 2000 Guineas last time out.
