O'BRIEN AND MOORE TAKE TOP TRAINER AND JOCKEY TITLESTop jockey: Dettori in driving seat after Day One
Posted in: Royal Ascot News
Calyx (Coventry Stakes), Without Parole (St James's Palace) and Monarchs Glen (Wolferton Stakes) all obliged under the jockey, who took his all-time tally of winners to 59 - meaning he passes Willie Carson to now sit third on the list.
The results mean that Dettori sits two clear of Charles Bishop, William Buick and Andrea Atzeni, who all recorded wins on Day One, with several attractive rides - including Cracksman in today's Prince of Wales's Stakes - still to come. As a result, bookmakers have priced him up at around 2/5 to finish the meeting as its leading jockey for the first time since 2004.
Both Calyx and Without Parole are highly exciting prospects, and Dettori spoke of his relief that his move on the latter to close down Ryan Moore on US Navy Flag two furlongs out paid dividends.

He said: “I had to move because Ryan Moore in front is always very dangerous.
"When I got to him, I looked up and thought, I’ve still got a furlong to go, I’m a sitting duck here. In fairness, Without Parole answered every call. He’s a lovely horse with a big future and that race made a man of him.”
Whilst Ryan Moore was without a win on the first day of the meeting, he has an attractive book on rides over the remaining four days and is the clear 10/3 second favourite behind Dettori for the accolade, with William Buick next best at around 16/1.
