O'BRIEN AND MOORE TAKE TOP TRAINER AND JOCKEY TITLESQueen Anne Stakes 2016: Ground coming good for Endless Drama
Posted in: Royal Ascot News
Endless Drama returned from nearly 12 months off the track with an excellent third in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, traveling well into contention as the field entered the final two furlongs and only weakening when the lack of a recent run began to tell in the closing stages.
Second in last year's Irish 2000 Guineas, his powerful physique suggests there could be more to come from him as a four-year-old season and, with the showers forecast for Ascot this week likely to be in his favour, trainer Ger Lyons is expecting a big run.
Speaking to AtTheRaces at Leopardstown on Thursday, he declared: "I know he's a Group 1 horse and I'd like to win a Group 1 with him.
"I thought leaving Newbury that we would be on too quick ground at Ascot, so it looks like it's coming our way ground-wise.
"He ran a creditable race in the Lockinge and he has come on for it. If that's good enough on Tuesday time will tell, but thankfully it looks like it is going to be nice ground and there'll be no excuses."
Lyons could have a second string to his bow on the opening day of the meeting, with the exciting Psychedelic Funk looking set to take his chance in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes.
He was forced to miss a listed race at Naas recently on account of the soft ground, but he had previously created a big impression when scoring by six lengths at that venue and his trainer is satisfied that all is well ahead of next week's Royal meeting.
"We're still to get there, but I couldn't be happier," he explained.
"I know he's a good horse and, if he turns up in the form he's in, he'll be there or thereabouts."
