O'BRIEN AND MOORE TAKE TOP TRAINER AND JOCKEY TITLESHavlin lined up for plum Calyx ride at Haydock

An impressive winner of the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2018, Calyx was forced to miss the rest of his two-year-old season through injury, but any concerns about his well-being were quickly dispelled when he produced a devastating performace to win the Pavilion Stakes on his reappearance earlier this month.

That victory saw him promoted to outright favouritism for the Commonwealth Cup at the Royal meeting, and John Gosden's charge has the chance to cement his position when lining up in the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock on Saturday.
While many people will have another win for Calyx down as a formality - he is currently as short as 5/1-on - it still represents a big opportunity for his rider Robert Havlin, who is clearly relishing the chance to partner him, with stable jockey Frankie Dettori heading to the Curragh to ride Too Darn Hot in the Irish 2000 Guineas instead.
"It's a great ride to pick up and I'm really looking forward to it," Havlin admitted.
"I rode him when he won on his debut at Newmarket last year and more recently he gave me a great feel in a workout on the Limekilns last week.
"Obviously he's 5/1-on and there a only a few runners, but hopefully he can get the job done as a stepping stone to the Commonwealth Cup."
The pick of the opposition on Saturday looks to be Hello Youmzain, the only other runner amongst the seven entries to be trading at single-figure odds. A Group 2 winner in France as a juvenile, he was below that form on his reappearance in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury, but should be suited by the return to six furlongs at the weekend.
