The three-year-old, who made a flawless return to action when winning on Royal Ascot Trials Day at the beginning of the month, was as short as 5/4 for the Commonwealth Cup on Saturday, and was backed like defeat was out of the question at Haydock, being sent off as the 2/13 favourite against three rivals.
The previously unbeaten Calyx loomed up to make his challenge two furlongs out, hitting a low of 1.06 on the Exchange, but he found the Kevin Ryan-trained Hello Youmzain too tough a nut to crack.

Calyx has drifted out to a general price of 4/1 for the Commonwealth Cup as a consequence behind Ten Sovereigns, who is the new 7/4 favourite. Meanwhile, Hello Youmzain shortened in from 20/1 to 8/1 joint third favouritism.
Thirty-five minutes later on the card was the Group 2 Temple Stakes, in which Battaash was a deeply impressive winner, defeating Alpha Delphini to win by two and a half lengths, and Charlie Hills' inmate shortened in from 6/1 to 2/1 favouritism for the Kings Stand Stakes as a consequence.
