Calliope - 14:15 Sedgefield
Smart Stat: 26% - Brian Hughes' strike rate at Sedgefield
Calliope turned in her best effort of the season to regain the winning thread at Perth two weeks ago, kicking on early in the staight and just needing to be kept up to her work from there to win by seven and a half lengths. That was a big step back in the right direction and she remains potentially well treated if continuing in the same sort of form. After all, Calliope lines up here from a BHA mark of 90 having won off 100 as recently as last August, so she rates an obvious selection to follow up at a track which Brian Hughes rides particularly well.
Londoner - 15:35 Navan
Smart Stat: 26% - Aidan O'Brien's strike rate at Navan since the start of the 2018 season
Aidan O'Brien has enjoyed plenty of success at Navan in recent years and both his runners in this maiden are worth a second look. Salt Lake City is sure to take plenty of beating if bouncing back to the form he showed when chasing home the subsequent Group 1 winner Al Riffa on his debut at the Curragh in August, but preference is for stablemate Londoner, who could be worth siding with to make a successful debut. He is certainly bred to be smart (by Saxon Warrior and out of the Prix de l'Abbaye winner Gilt Edge Girl) and the fact he cost €270,000 as a yearling suggests he very much looks the part as well.
Mutafawwig - 19:30 Kempton
Smart Stat: 23% - Saeed bin Suroor's strike rate at Kempton Park since the start of the 2018 season
Mutafawwig proved at least as good as ever in Dubai earlier this year, producing his best effort when filling the runner-up spot in a minor event at Meydan in March. He is back on the all-weather today and his excellent record when fresh suggests his absence since the spring is unlikely to be an issue. Still low mileage for a six-year-old, he has shown smart form on a couple of his occasions in his injury-plagued career and this looks a good opportunity for him to gain a confidence-boosting victory for Saeed bin Suroor, who is always worth following at Kempton.
