Smart Stat: £99.92 - Richard Fahey's profit to a £1 level stake with horses running in first time headgear
Embolden shaped well on debut over six furlongs here in July and, though he didn’t build on that straight away, he resumed his progress when finishing runner-up to a potentially smart type at Musselburgh last time, looking well suited by the step up to seven furlongs. He still looked green on that occasion, too, and didn’t get the clearest of runs, so looks a big player here with the cheekpieces going on.
Smart Stat: 22% - Ryan Moore's strike rate at DONCASTER
It’s fair to say that Equilateral hasn’t reached the heights he once looked destined for after winning a minor event at this course last year, but he is still a smart sprinter, and is fancied to resume winning ways down in class. His best effort this season came when a close second in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, but has flattered to deceive on his last two starts, again not finding as much off the bridle at the Curragh last time. Ryan Moore is back on board today, though, and this race doesn’t look as deep, so he is worth chancing.
Smart Stat: £25.32 - Chris Wall's profit to a £1 level stake with favourites
Purgatory showed improved for to belatedly open his account sporting first-time blinkers at Yarmouth last month, and ran to at least the same level when a close third at Thirsk last time, leaving the impression he should have beaten the winner. He took a strong hold and had to squeeze through a gap in the final furlong and, up only 2 lb for that effort, he should continue to give a good account.
