Ravenswood - Thirsk 14:45
Smart Stat: 35% - Paul Hanagan's strike rate on favourites since the start of the 2013 season
Ravenswood is yet to win a race after 11 starts, but there has been plenty of promise in his two outings since joining Kenneth Slack, including when pulling clear with an improver at Newcastle last time. Beaten just a length at the line, the five-year-old certainly showed enough to suggest he is up to winning a race of this nature and would appear to hold sound claims of going one better from the same mark, with Paul Hanagan taking over in the saddle and blinkers added for the first time.
Shanroe Tic Tec - Southwell 19:10
Smart Stat: £34.68 - Ben Pauling's profit when having only one runner on the card (hurdles) since the start of the 2013/14 season
Shanroe Tic Tec showed a fair level of form when third on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon in March, not jumping with much fluency but offering something to work on nonetheless. Admittedly, he failed to build on that in two subsequent starts for previous connections, but it would be no surprise if he were to produce a much improved display now starting out in handicaps for Ben Pauling, a trainer who has done well with similar recruits, and it will interesting to see if the market speaks in his favour.
Wynford - Southwell 20:10
Smart Stat: 20% - Dan Skelton's strike rate at SOUTHWELL since the start of the 2014/15 season
Wynford chucked his chance of winning away after doing all the hard work at Market Rasen last time, hanging badly left once hitting the front, carrying Midnight Maestro with him and letting that one back in front. He is clearly not one to get involved with at short odds on that evidence, but it still represented a career-best effort and, with the prospect of more to come given a stronger pace to run at, Wynford could be worth chancing in an open heat, just 4 lb higher and with his yard in top form.
