Captain Cody - 15:52 Limerick
Smart Stat: 30% - Willie Mullins' strike rate at Limerick since the start of the 2018/19 season
Captain Cody showed plenty of ability when filling the runner-up spot on his Rules debut at Punchestown last month, sticking to his task well to be beaten just half a length behind a useful prospect. That form sets the standard here on Timeform's weight-adjusted ratings, ahead of stablemate Blizzard of Oz, who was one place behind Captain Cody at Punchestown. There clearly isn't much between the pair, but Captain Cody is open to more improvement and could be the way to go at the prices for Willie Mullins, who has enjoyed plenty of success at Limerick in recent years.
Alpha Capture - 18:00 Southwell
Smart Stat: 21% - William Haggas' strike rate with sprinters
Alpha Capture showed useful form when winning a listed race at York in October, doing his best work late on to get the verdict by a head. He then failed to justify short odds when finishing only third in a minor event at Newcastle 10 days later, but it's probably worth a line through that run as he shaped like a horse who found the race coming too soon. He has been given a good break since and just a repeat of the form he showed at York ought to give him every chance of resuming winning ways on these terms.
Bluebird - 20:00 Southwell
Smart Stat: 25% - Daniel Muscutt's strike rate at Southwell
Bluebird was below form when fitted with first-time blinkers at this course two weeks ago, but she'd been running consistently prior to that with three podium finishes in a row. She is now back down to the same mark as when beaten just a short head here in November and the speed she's been showing recently suggests the drop back to five furlongs is worth a try. In a wide-open heat, Bluebird is worth another chance to resume her progress and finally get off the mark under Daniel Muscutt, who rides this track particularly well.
