Aikhal - 13:45 Listowel
Smart Stat: 3 - Aidan O'Brien's number of winners in past 10 runnings
Aikhal is bred to be useful (by Galileo out of a half-sister to the Irish Derby winner Latrobe) and he shaped with plenty of encouragement when second on his debut at Cork two weeks ago, fighting off a number of challengers before being collared close home by one delivered with a late run. That form sets the standard in this line-up, while the small 'p' attached to his Timeform rating denotes that he is likely to improve with the run under his belt. Therefore, this looks an ideal opportunity for him to get off the mark at the second attempt for Aidan O'Brien, who is seeking his fourth success in this race since 2014.
Retrospect - 15:10 Lingfield
Smart Stat: £24.62 - William Muir & Chris Grassick's profit to a £1 level stake when having one runner at a Flat meeting
Retrospect is still a maiden after 15 starts, but there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with his attitude and he has been running creditably in defeat for much of the season. He is now on a BHA mark of 57 which is only 1 lb higher than when filling the runner-up spot (beaten just half a length) on his penultimate outing at Ffos Las in August. There is no doubt he is a well-handicapped horse and the booking of Hollie Doyle looks a positive move as he attempts to belatedly open his account for William Muir and Chris Grassick.
Lutinebella - 17:00 Warwick
Smart Stat: 21% - Fergal O'Brien's strike rate in summer
Fergal O'Brien has already saddled 50 winners this season and he holds obvious claims of adding to his tally with two runners in this bumper. Rebel Roxy shaped well when second on her debut at Worcester three weeks ago, but preference is for stablemate Lutinebella, who showed a fair amount of ability when fourth on her only start at Kempton in March. That looked a strong race on paper and Lutinebella had no chance of reaching the principals from where she was positioned, so it will be no surprise if she takes a big step forward to score here under Paddy Brennan.
