Smart Stat: £19.60 Charlie Longsdon’s profit to a £1 level stakes with hurdling favourites
Glimpse of Gala was placed in three of her five starts in bumpers last season, including a listed contest for mares at Huntingdon, showing fair form, and ran in the Grade 2 mares’ bumper at Aintree on her final start. Stepping up in trip, she therefore made plenty of appeal on her hurdling debut at Worcester in May and was close up when falling three out. She’s therefore worth another chance for a stable that’s profitable to follow with its favourites over hurdles.
Smart Stat: 34% Joe Fanning’s strike rate on favourites
Overthink is a three-year-old with not too many miles on the clock so looks interesting for Mark Johnston and Joe Fanning in this handicap over a mile and three quarters. He got off the mark in a handicap over the same trip at Catterick two starts back and ran to a similar level when fourth at Wolverhampton last time despite the combination of a steady pace and the sharp track not suiting. Redcar’s more galloping profile should suit this staying type much better.
Smart Stat: 38% William Buick’s strike rate on favourites
William Buick has an excellent strike rate on favourites and looks to have a good chance of rounding off the evening at Wolverhampton with a winner in this five-furlong handicap on Twice As Likely. She won back-to-back contests here in the spring and, having slipped in the weights since, showed that another win is in the offing when she went down by just a nose to Perfect Symphony, a race she might have won had she handled the home turn a bit better.
