Smart Stat: £38.93 - Declan Carroll's profit to a £1 level stake when having one runner at a Flat meeting
Jus Pires hasn’t been with Declon Carroll long, but proved on his latest outing over a mile and a half at this course that he is up to winning races from this sort of mark, leaving the impression that he would have been suited by a stronger gallop. That was his first start since undergoing a breathing operation, too, and given that this race doesn’t look as deep, he is worth another chance dropped in trip.
Smart Stat: 37% - John Gosden's strike rate at NEWCASTLE since the start of the 2016 season
Millicent Fawcett made very encouraging debut when runner-up in a maiden at Newbury in April that has worked out well, and belatedly confirmed that promise when bolting up in a minor event at Wolverhampton last time. She clearly had some sort of setback during the summer, but she looks ready to make up for lost time now, winning in the style of a filly that has more to offer when last seen, and an opening mark of 78 could well underestimate her now sent handicapping.
Smart Stat: £15.64 - Michael Bell's profit to a £1 level stake with horses running after a break
A well-bred filly, Inhale progressed nicely in four starts for Amanda Perrett last season, winning twice, including when making a winning start in handicaps at Doncaster when last seen in July. She has since changed hands for 115,000 guineas in December, and is interesting starting out for Michael Bell, who has a good record with his horses returning from a break. The race she won at Doncaster worked out well and a 6 lb rise looks fair for one who should have even more to offer.
