Overcourt - 12:33 Kelso
Smart Stat: 25% - Sandy Thomson's strike rate in early season
Overcourt was limited to only two appearances during the 2020/21 campaign, but he shaped encouragingly when second on his chasing debut at Sedgefield last October, sticking to his task well to pass the post less than two lengths behind the winner. He pulled clear of the remainder and it looks strong form given that several of those in behind went on to achieve a useful level over fences. Still totally unexposed as a chaser, Overcourt should have more to offer himself and a BHA mark of 120 is unlikely to prove beyond him on his belated return for Sandy Thomson, who has his team in good heart at present (67% of horses running to form).
Dysart Dynamo - 12:40 Cork
33% - Willie Mullins' strike rate at Cork since the start of the 2016/17 season
Dysart Dynamo was unbeaten in two starts in bumpers last season, first getting off the mark on his debut at Clonmel in March and then producing a smart performance to follow up at the Punchestown Festival five weeks later. He created an excellent impression at Punchestown, hitting the front early in the straight before forging clear to land the spoils by seven and a half lengths with plenty in hand. He must be considered an exciting recruit to novice hurdling and this looks just an ordinary contest in which he should be able to make a winning debut, lining up for the Willie Mullins yard which is sending a typically strong team to Cork this afternoon.
Aki Bomaye - 15:27 Huntingdon
Smart Stat: £19.79 - Colin Tizzard's profit to a £1 level stake with chasers being stepped up in trip for the first time
Aki Bomaye is a winning pointer who shaped well after eight months off (had wind surgery in the interim) when second on his chasing bow at Worcester last month, briefly looking outpaced before rallying strongly in the latter stages. He was beaten only four and a quarter lengths and his strength at the finish suggests the step up to three miles here is likely to unlock further improvement. He is only 2 lb higher in the weights than last time and another bold bid is expected for Brendan Powell and Colin Tizzard.
