Smart Stat: 18% - G. M. Lyons's strike rate with handicap debutants
This is competitive, but Pirate Jenny arrives with a completely unexposed profile, and looks interesting on handicap debut for a yard that does well with such types. She made a most encouraging debut in a race that worked out extremely well at Navan in August and built on that as promised when opening her account at Cork the following month. She got the job done in a professional manner, but left the impression there is more to come, and an opening mark of 88 looks workable.
Smart Stat: 5 - Aidan O'Brien's number of winners in past 10 runnings
Aidan O'Brien has an excellent record in the Irish 1000 Guineas and he once again holds a strong hand, but it is History who is preferred to her shorter-priced stablemate Tuesday. The latter looked more of a middle distance filly in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, whereas History showed both speed and stamina when winning a Group 3 on her return at Leopardstown albeit at a lesser level. She is entitled to come forward for that run, though, and may have been underestimated in the betting.
Smart Stat: 26% - Ryan Moore's strike rate at CURRAGH
Ark left her debut last season well behind when making her reappearance over this trip at Naas last month and was perhaps unlucky not to open her account when favourite at Naas last time. She only ran to a similar level form-wise, but was perhaps ridden too aggressively, sent for home a long way from home and picked off by two closers entering the final furlong. The addition of first-time blinkers should help her concentration and she is well up to winning a race of this nature.
