Traprain Law - 14:00 Kelso
Smart Stat: 2 - Lucinda Russell's number of winners in past 6 runnings
This doesn't look the strongest race of its type and it may be worth siding with French import Traprain Law. He showed clear signs of ability when trained in France, finishing behind some useful types on his first three starts before finding the step up into listed company too much on his final start for David Cottin. He has since joined a yard that do well with such types and the level of his French form stands out in this field.
Nuts Well - 15:12 Kelso
Smart Stat: 3 - Ann Hamilton's number of winners in past 8 runnings
Nuts Well is now an 11-year-old, but he has made a winning reappearance in this race in three of the last four years, including 12 months ago from a 4 lb higher mark, and he again makes plenty of appeal on his return to action. He goes particularly well at this course (also won a listed chase over further last season) and will have seemingly had this race on his agenda for a while, so a big run is expected for all this looks a good renewal.
South Terrace - 16:38 Uttoxeter
Smart Stat: 21% - Dr Richard Newland's strike rate with staying hurdlers
South Terrace won a course and distance handicap from a 1 lb lower mark last season and he looks interesting on his return. It is a slight surprise the handicapper dropped him 3 lb for his latest effort at Sandown where he finished third in a stronger race than this, having no chance with the two who beat him but he probably did too much too soon on that occasion. He remains with potential from this sort of mark and represents a yard that can get them ready after a break.
