Smart Stat: 4 - Alan King's number of winners in the past 10 runnings
Alan King has a fine record in this contest and this time he relies on hurdling debutant Chinese Whisperer, who was successful in a novice at Wolverhampton (over a mile and half a furlong) on his final start as a juvenile. He shaped with promise on his reappearance at Beverley in June, but failed to build on that in three subsequent starts. However, he will have been well prepared for this change of discipline and is entitled to respect given his connections.
Smart Stat: £74.75 - Ger Lyons' profit to a £1 level stake with debutants
A lack of fitness or know-how is unlikely to be an issue for Power Under Me given trainer Ger Lyons' superb record with debutants. Power Under Me makes some appeal on paper as he is by first-season sire sensation Mehmas and out of a seven-furlong winner who is related to a couple of smart sorts. He will need a market check on debut.
Smart Stat: 26% - Nico de Boinville's strike rate at Kempton
Nicky Henderson often targets some of his better horses at Kempton, a course that usually provides decent ground even in the depths of winter, so it's perhaps little surprise that Nico de Boinville has enjoyed success at the venue. A strike rate of 26% is still impressive, however, and he will be hoping to enhance that on Sunrise Ruby in the finale. The pair posted an impressive success at Newton Abbot last month, drawing 22 lengths clear, and that form sets the standard here.
