Clan des Obeaux - Cheltenham 13:55
Smart Stat: 4 - Paul Nicholls' number of winners in the past 10 runnings.
As ever, this looks a competitive renewal, however Paul Nicholls knows about winning such events and is looking for his fifth winner since 2007. Romain de Senam shouldn’t be discounted, despite only managing fifth behind a few of these at the track last month, while Le Prezien was third in the same race and should continue to give a good account assuming his jumping holds up a bit better. However, Clan des Obeaux ran Ladbrokes Trophy runner-up Whisper close at Kempton and was impressive at Haydock last time. He looks the most progressive in the field.
The New One - Cheltenham 15:05
Smart Stat: 4 - Nigel Twiston-Davies' number of winners in the past 8 runnings.
Melon is all the rage for the International Hurdle, however Willie Mullins’ young charge faces his biggest test yet, whereas this is tried and tested for The New One. He’s a three-time winner of this race, including when beating My Tent Or Yours and previous winner Old Guard last season, and he could be very hard to peg back once more under ideal conditions.
River Arrow - Cheltenham 15:40
Smart Stat: £24.49 - Tom Symonds' profit when having only one runner on the card (hurdles) since the start of the 2011/12 season
Lady Karina is respected, with more improvement to come, however Tom Symonds has a good record when targeting one runner at a meeting and River Arrow could offer some each-way value. She has a bit to find on ratings but should come on for her reappearance at Ascot last time. A proven winner on soft ground, she should relish the extra emphasis on stamina here.
