Cepage - 14:05 Aintree
Smart Stat: £100.62 - Venetia Williams's profit to a £1 level stake with chasers running after a break
Cepage went through the race as if well ahead of his mark when finishing second to Frodon in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at Cheltenham last year, finishing clear of the rest despite a bad blunder two out, and he makes plenty of appeal here following a 10-month absence. Venetia Williams's low-mileage chaser goes very well fresh, so sharpness is not expected to be an issue, particularly given his stable's record with chasers after a break.
Ain't My Fault - 14:30 Kelso
Smart Stat: 2 - Lucinda Russell's number of winners in past 3 runnings (also saddles Effet Special)
Ain't My Fault made an encouraging return from five months off and wind surgery at Hexham four weeks ago, going with enthusiasm in front before being left behind by the winner in the straight. The way he went through the race suggests the drop back in trip won't be an issue here, and, a winning pointer earlier in his career, he could yet have more to offer after only two chase starts under Rules, representing the Lucinda Russell yard that knows what it takes to win this race.
Highway Companion - 15:05 Kelso
Smart Stat: 21% - Keith Dalgleish's strike rate in early season
Keith Dalgleish has his dual-purpose yard firing on all cylinders at present and is likely to have high hopes of adding to his tally here with Highway Companion. He was much better than the bare result when fourth in novice company here two weeks ago, never nearer than at the finish after being left with too much to do, and his scope for further improvement identifies him as very much one to look out for on handicap debut, with the longer trip also likely to suit.
