Glasvegas - 11:45 Lingfield
Smart Stat: 31% - Ryan Moore's strike rate at Lingfield
Lingfield's tight, turning track poses a test for horse and rider, but it is one that Ryan Moore regularly passes with flying colours. Moore has an extraordinary strike rate of 31% at the venue (he operates at about 19% elsewhere) and has fired in four-timers on the last two occasions he has ridden at the course. In the opener he partners Glasvegas, a four-year-old who is on a long losing run but has slipped to a fair mark and has been shaping well of late.
Grand Sancy - 13:50 Newbury
Smart Stat: 7 - Paul Nicholls' number of winners in the past ten runnings
Paul Nicholls has dominated in the Greatwood Gold Cup, remarkably winning seven of the last ten runnings. He has two representatives this year but his best chance appears to be Grand Sancy, who arrives here fresh having been off the course since November. Grand Sancy was a smart hurdler and quickly reached a similar level over fences, notably finishing third in the Wayward Lad Novices' Chase at Kempton last season. He flopped when last seen at Wincanton but has been given time to get over that and is entitled to respect for a yard with such a formidable record in the race.
Sayadam - 16:25 Kelso
Smart Stat: £39.42 - Kim Bailey's profit to a £1 level stake with bumper debutants
Kim Bailey boasts an impressive level-stake profit with his bumper debutants, which suggest they rarely lack for fitness or know-how at the first attempt. Bailey sends Sayadam on the long journey north to Kelso for his debut and the four-year-old is prominent in the market. His dam, Catmoves, was a useful performer successful at listed level in France, while the form of Bailey's yard is another positive.
