Smart Stat: 2 - Charlie Appleby's number of winners in past 10 runnings
This looks a good-looking minor event and Danilova makes plenty of appeal following her encouraging debut. Bred in the purple, she made a good start to her career, faring best of the newcomers when runner-up to her more experienced stablemate over his course and distance last month. There should be plenty more to come from her and, given Charlie Appleby’s record in this race, she is one to keep on side.
Smart Stat: 23% - William Haggas's strike rate with handicap debutants
Baarrij is a well-bred filly who has made a promising start to her career, building on the promise of her debut run when opening her account at Windsor in June. She had clearly come on plenty for the initial experience at Newbury, always well positioned and well on top in the closing stages. William Haggas has a good record with such types, and an opening mark of 83 could well underestimate her, with the step up to a mile and a quarter likely to unlock further improvement.
Smart Stat: 21% - Mark Johnston's strike rate at NEWMARKET (JULY) since the start of the 2016 season
This could turn out to be a trappy event, but at the prices, Vivid Diamond makes a fair bit of appeal. At the weights, she comes out on top of Timeform’s weight-adjusted ratings, her win at listed level last season proving herself a near-smart performer. Her versatility, plus the return to this longer trip, will work in her favour here, and she looks the one to side with.
