Smart Stat: 35% - John Gosden's strike rate at WOLVERHAMPTON since the start of the 2012 season
It’s fair to say that Orchid Lily hasn’t shown much in her three starts to date, running to just a modest level in novice events, but it would be no surprise to see her be more competitive now handicapping. John Gosden does well at this track, and is in good form at present. Orchid Lily has an attractive pedigree, and should rate higher than a mark of 71 in time, so is worth chancing in an open event.
Smart Stat: 37% - Joe Fanning's strike rate on favourites since the start of the 2013 season
Dubawi Fifty is building a really solid profile and is again of plenty interest here. He remains relatively lightly raced for a five-year-old and, judged on his latest win at Newcastle last month, he is still improving. The fitting of cheekpieces seemed to get a bit extra out of him, showing another string to his bow by overcoming a drop in trip, and the return to two miles here is very much in his favour. The booking of Joe Fanning, who has an excellent record on favourites, further strengthens his claims.
Smart Stat: £48.96 - Ian Williams's profit with favourites since the start of the 2013 season
Kreb’s Cycle proved at least as good as ever when gaining his first win in a handicap at Lingfield last month and he is fancied to follow up here. He was well positioned that day, but a subsequent 4 lb rise leaves him with some handicapping scope judged on the pick of his form, and the Ian Williams yard is in good form at present.
