Auriferous was a fairly useful stayer on the Flat for Andrew Balding last year and he shaped well on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon 10 days ago in what turned out to be quite a chaotic maiden. There was carnage at the first hurdle and Auriferous was held up afterwards, making steady headway after jumping three out and staying on in the closing stages without being knocked about. He looks a sure-fire improver on that evidence who will relish the extra emphasis on stamina and should go close here. 

Patient Owner - 16:15 Carlisle

Several of these arrive with questions to answer so Patient Owner is one with the most compelling claims having shaped well on his chase debut at Uttoxeter on New Year's Eve. He was prominent in the betting that day and went closer than ever to opening his account, coping well with the increased emphasis on stamina and arguably a bit unfortunate to bump into an old-timer that had fallen in the weights and on a going day. The third and fourth have boosted that form since and Patient Owner looks very interesting up 2 lb. 

Rumnotred - 19:00 Wolverhampton

Rumnotred cost just 800 guineas as a yearling but he has shown fairly useful form in three starts so far, producing another career-best effort when again finishing runner-up over seven furlongs at Kempton last month. He finished second only to a very progressive rival that day, who has since bolted up on his handicap debut, and Rumnotred has been handed a potentially lenient mark. The step up in trip will also suit him looking at his pedigree and he remains with potential for a yard that do well with such types.
