Smart Stat: 21% - Archie Watson's strike rate at KEMPTON PARK since the start of the 2017 season
This is a good looking race, but the one to beat is the Archie Watson-trained Mighty Gurkha. He can boast a very positive record on the all-weather, winning his debut at Lingfield by seven and a half lengths, and also producing his best effort to date over this course and distance when successful in the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes (Zamaani fifth). Mighty Gurkha failed only narrowly to maintain his unbeaten record on an artificial surface at Wolverhampton last time, collared in the dying strides by one coming from much further back. He lost little in defeat that day and is fully expected to concede weight all round here.
Smart Stat: 15% - Ed Walker's strike rate with handicap debutants
Paxos shaped very well when finishing second over this course and distance on his debut in February last year, but went backwards from that run back at this venue on his next start in June, pushed along from near enough halfway and hanging in the straight. He attracted support at Southwell on his first run for seven months earlier this month but left the impression he would strip fitter for the outing. The return to seven furlongs will be in his favour now, while he is also the sort to improve further now handicapping for a yard that do well with such types.
Smart Stat: 29% - Benoit de la Sayette's strike rate when riding one runner at a Flat meeting
Benoit de la Sayette is attached to John Gosden and looks set to be one of the leading apprentices in 2021, already having ridden three winners from six rides since the turn of the year. The trainer of Almost You, Kevin Foy, has also made an excellent start to his training career and the pair can celebrate another victory in the final race of the day. Almost You opened her account at Montier-En-Der in September and could be very well handicapped starting out in Britain from a mark of 50. There has been some support for her in the betting this morning and she is very interesting with an excellent claimer taking 7 lb off.
