Smart Stat: 22% - Richard Johnson's strike rate at CHEPSTOW
Barbrook Star was a big eye-catcher when third at Warwick on his most recent start last month, as he was able to get himself into contention despite making a host of errors with his jumping. It was remarkable he still had a chance turning into the straight considering how poorly he had jumped, and provided he can improve on that front he looks very well handicapped. Indeed, he arrives here off the same mark as last time, and considering Richard Johnson's strike rate at Chepstow, Barbrook Star is fancied to put everything together this time around and take this.
Smart Stat: 22% - Sean Bowen's strike rate at CHEPSTOW
Lisnagar Oscar has made a solid start to hurdling so far, finishing second on debut at Ffos in November, before repeating the feat in Grade 2 company at Cheltenham a month later. Admittedly, that wasn't the strongest form you'll see for that level, but that was just his second start over timber and he's clearly a useful stayer in the making. Sean Bowen is another jockey with a solid record at Chepstow, and with more to come from Lisnagar Oscar, he gets the vote to score at the third time of asking over hurdles.
Smart Stat: 22% - Philip Hobbs's strike rate in mid season
Evidence De Thaix got off the mark at the second attempt over hurdles rather cosily at Exeter last month, with things looking up in the air at the second last, before she ultimately won with a bit up her sleeve. She's open to further improvement yet and looks another good prospect imported in from France. Her opening handicap mark looks a fair one, and considering her trainer's strike rate at this time of year, she is fancied to win again.
