Auriferous was a fairly useful handicapper on the Flat for Andrew Balding and he has a future in this sphere too judged by his debut for Gary Moore at Huntingdon 10 days ago. He was given a considerate introduction to hurdles, not having much room on landing after jumping the first and given a patient ride thereafter, making progress in the closing stages without being unduly punished. That looked a deeper contest than this and, granted normal improvement, he should prove a tough nut to crack, especially with this longer trip sure to suit.
