Grimm Star caught the eye on his debut for Dr Richard Newland in a handicap at Hereford last month, improving on his previous form making his handicap debut despite making his move into contention earlier than ideal. It was still a very stylish move, though, suggesting he is some way ahead of his mark, and it will be surprising if he hasn't even more to offer for his shrewd trainer.

Aronius was fairly useful on the Flat when trained in Germany and showed his best form over hurdles when finishing second on his handicap debut at Catterick in January, pulling clear of the remainder with the winner. He travelled well in a first-time tongue tie on that occasion, leaving the impression he can win races from this sort of mark, and looks a big player from just 1 lb higher.
