Barrier Peaks has made significant progress to win his last two starts over hurdles, first opening his account at Exeter in January and then shrugging off a 10 lb hike in the weights to follow up at Uttoxeter later in the month. He was well on top at the finish on the last occasion, hitting the front two out and only doing enough from there to land the spoils by two and three-quarter lengths. He seems sure to go on improving and a further 10 lb climb in the weights probably won't be enough to prevent him from completing the hat-trick.

Issar d'Airy was gambled on after 10 weeks off and duly proved a different proposition to get off the mark on his second handicap start at Lingfield last week, forging clear on the run-in to win by 12 lengths and arguably deserving extra credit having made a serious mistake mid-race. He is clearly a long way ahead of his mark and a 7 lb penalty is likely to prove wholly inadequate if he arrives in the same sort of form after just seven days off, with further progress also not out of the question now that he's found the winning groove.
