Heroique de Maulde was a dual winner over fences when trained in France and shaped well on British debut when finishing runner-up in a handicap chase at Newcastle in November. That was his first start for 12 months and he was only narrowly edged out by a progressive type, and he again ran a race full of promise when third back at that track last time. He pulled clear of the remainder with the first two and that form is starting to work out and he is just 2 lb higher now, so makes a fair bit of appeal.

Razoni was very green on his debut over six furlongs at Wolverhampton, but finished with a real flourish once the penny started to drop, and he was arguably unlucky not to open his account over course and distance last time. The winner that day set a steady pace and was always well positioned to quicken off it, whereas Razoni came from much further back to almost clinch the race close home. Razoni will likely stay further than this in time but he is well up to winning a race of this nature on what he has shown so far and looks a worthy favourite.
