Golden Sovereign was a big improver over fences a couple of years ago, winning a course and distance handicap from a 3 lb lower mark, and he shaped with promise on his return from 22 months off back over this course and distance on Boxing Day. He didn't look short of fitness, but he appeared to lack the sharpness of the two who finished in front on him in the closing stages. Golden Sovereign left the impression he is on a good mark and is a horse to be interested in moving forward.

Bolsover Bill arrives in top form, rattling off a hat-trick in good style at Ffos Las last month in a race which is working out well, and he lost little in defeat when beaten by a well-handicapped, thriving type at Catterick last week. He may have had his winning run ended, but still emerged with plenty of credit, and he remains a horse to be positive about turned out from the same mark.
