Apple Rock didn't manage to win last season, but slipped in the weights as a result, and duly took advantage of that falling mark when making a winning reappearance at Southwell last week. He was well backed to do so, and pulled well clear of the remainder with another well-treated sort who returned to form, so it looks solid for the grade, and he should take all the beating able to race from the same mark now.

Shutupshirley showed the benefit of his reappearance run when opening his account over hurdles at Exeter 11 days ago, proving much sharper and also appreciating the bigger emphasis on stamina. He was given a positive ride, sent on into the lead jumping three from home and soon clear afterwards, having plenty in hand. He looks well treated turned out under a 7 lb penalty as a result and will be hard to beat now moving even further up in trip.
