Shaman du Berlais would probably have won under a more conservative ride at Chepstow last time and he can gain a measure of compensation here. Shaman du Berlais landed a gamble on his chasing debut and first start for Kerry Lee at Stratford in May and he was also well supported on his return at Chepstow last month. However, he had to settle for third after doing too much too soon, a big move mid-race taking him 25 lengths clear at one point. It was eye-catching how he stuck to his task once headed, though, and he has more to offer under the right circumstances. Given how enthusiastically he went at Chepstow, this drop back to two miles from two and a half miles won't be an issue.

Lincoln Gamble has made a good start for Ivan Furtado since joining from Richard Fahey's yard and he snapped a long losing run when successful over this course and distance last month. Lincoln Gamble had finished runner-up on his first two starts for this yard and he gained a deserved success here last time, making all for a dominant success. That performance highlighted his effectiveness over this course and distance, as well as a good constitution as it came only a day after his previous effort. He is still on a decent mark after going up 5 lb for that victory.
