This looks a useful handicap, but there is a chance that Mighty Ulysses has been let in lightly ahead of his handicap debut. He looked a good prospect when making a winning debut at Yarmouth last season and shaped much better than the bare result on his return in the Derby Trial at Epsom. He capitalised on a drop in grade fitted with a first-time hood back at a mile when bolting up in a minor event at Newmarket last time, impressing with how quickly he put the race to bed under a hands-and-heels ride. Mighty Ulysses looks potentially smart and should be able to follow up here before having his sights raised again.

Hilts showed promise in three starts last season and was well backed to make a winning reappearance on handicap debut at Redcar last month, landing good support and relishing the step up in trip. He wasn't as well positioned as the runner-up that day but did extremely well to get up on the line, the penny really starting to drop in the closing stages, and he should relish the extra two furlongs he faces now. Hilts is the type that can stay ahead of the handicapper for some time and has the potential to rack up a sequence.
