The Mallard Handicap at Doncaster looks another competitive renewal, but by far the most interesting runner in the field is Ben Vrackie, who finished one and a quarter lengths second to Maid Up - who has subsequently been supplemented for the St Leger - in a Group 3 contest over this trip at Goodwood last time.
He fared very well considering he was conceding 3 lb to that rival on just his fourth start, emerging from the race with plenty of credit, and an opening mark of 104 could well underestimate him. Ben Vrackie is the type who will go on improving, particularly as a four-year-old next season, and he should be up to beating his elders here.

Admittedly, supporting Intransigent does come with risks attached, and he isn't the easiest to win with, but he likes it round Chester and he is well handicapped on the pick of his form.
His last win came on the all-weather at Kempton early last year, but he has shaped well on several occasions this season, including when fourth back at Kempton last time. His effort over this C&D the time before reads well, too, doing well to finish as close as he did after not enjoying an ideal trip, and there is enough juice in his price today to make him of interest.
