Hoe Joly Smoke shaped with plenty of encouragement when filling the runner-up spot on his hurdling debut at this course in October, passing the post only three and a quarter lengths behind the winner (who has won again since) and looking unlucky not to finish closer still having made a mistake at the last. That form sets the standard in this line-up and the small 'p' attached to his Timeform rating denotes that he is likely to progress further. Trained by Dan Skelton, who has his team in rude health (68% of horses running to form), Hoe Joly Smoke rates a confident selection to get off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt.

Doctor Grace again ran well when finishing third over this course and distance three weeks ago, staying on strongly from rear to be beaten just a length and a quarter. The pair who beat her were both ridden much closer to the pace, so she can arguably have her effort marked up and it's surely just a matter of time before she wins a race of this nature. Today could well be the day given that she can line up from the same mark as last time and the fine form of the Mick Halford yard (73% of horses running to form) also gives cause for optimism.
