Maghlaak has an excellent pedigree -out of 1000 Guineas winner Ghanaati - and he built on the promise of his debut when opening his account over a mile at Kempton last summer. He showed further improvement when following up under a penalty at Goodwood next time, well suited by the step up to a mile and a quarter, and he shaped very well on his return and handicap debut in heavy ground at Goodwood earlier this month. He pulled clear with a couple of race-fit rivals on that occasion and, now back on a sounder surface, he is strongly fancied to prove himself well handicapped.

Ormolulu is a mixed bag on pedigree but she showed plenty of ability on her debut at Southwell in April, finishing runner-up to another newcomer who has shown respectable form since, and she took a big step forward when going one place better over the same course and distance a couple of weeks ago. She was easy to back, but ran out a most impressive winner, easily beating the first and second favourite, and she looks a horse to remain positive about now making her turf debut.
