was having just his third race in Britain in the last 3 years and his first beyond 1½m, getting away with the trip rather than benefiting from it and, by all accounts set to revert to 1½m for the rest of the season, well positioned the way this developed and displaying trademark tenacilty to hang on, his total prize money earned now in excess of £10.6 million; chased leader, came wide straight, edged ahead over 1f out, all out to hold on.

confirmed he's a force to be reckoned with in lesser pattern company these days, acknowledging he was receiving 5 lb from Rebel's Romance but up against it trying to haul that one back given the way this developed; waited with, progress from 3f out, chased leader approaching final 1f, stayed on.

found this an inadequate test after 7 months off but it should blow the cobwebs away as he attempts to do better than his third in the Gold Cup last year, the appreciably longer trip at Ascot sure to be in his favour but the towering presence of Kyprios still a daunting prospect to overcome; dwelt, in touch, shaken up over 3f out, kept on.

gelded since last seen, didn't have an obvious chance at the weights and wasn't disgraced after 7 months off, acknowledging this was a decidedly muddling affair; dwelt, held up, shaken up 3f out, kept on without really threatening to land a blow.

didn't find first-time blinkers sparking him back to life, failing to beat a rival despite very much having the run of the race and hard to know where to go with him these days; dictated, took keen hold, headed over 1f out, no extra.

All 5 ran. Race Distance Adjustment: +43 yds

Winning Owner: Godolphin

Time: 3m 7.88s Closing Sectional: (3f): 34.75s (115.5%)

Overrounds: Industry SP 108%, Betfair SP 101%

A time 12 seconds slower than the 2024 renewal - run on similar ground - emphasized just how sedate the pace was in this, the 5 runners unsurprisingly finishing in a heap after racing only through the final 3f, the globetrotting Rebel's Romance well positioned to successfully concede weight all round on his first attempt beyond 1½m but the form as a whole surely best taken with more than a pinch of salt.

REBEL'S ROMANCE (IRE) was having just his third race in Britain in the last 3 years and his first beyond 1½m, getting away with the trip rather than benefiting from it and, by all accounts set to revert to 1½m for the rest of the season, well positioned the way this developed and displaying trademark tenacilty to hang on, his total prize money earned now in excess of £10.6 million; chased leader, came wide straight, edged ahead over 1f out, all out to hold on.
