had been a disappointing fourth in the previous two renewals of the Nunthorpe but righted a few wrongs in scintillating fashion as he once more proved himself a 5f performer out of the very top drawer when he's properly on his game, seen to maximum advantage this time and lowering Dayjur's long-standing track record into the bargain, aided by being towed along by other speedsters on his part of the track to past halfway; tracked pace, headway on bridle around halfway, went on 2f out, asserted soon after, went clear, ridden out; we know he doesn't always produce performances of this level, no Enable or Stradavarius on that score, but in no way should that be held against him when assessing his position amongst the best 5f performers of recent memory.

was back to the sort of form that had seen him finish third in the King's Stand, albeit beaten further by Battaash this time, that one seen to maximum advantage this time; pressed leader, every chance 2f out, left behind by winner soon after, stayed on; he'll presumably be taking on the winner in the Abbaye in an attempt to better his third placing last season, though he won't have the generous weight-for-age allowance this time round.

had a lot on her plate but ran up to her best tackling a bare 5f for the first time since the Queen Mary and, what's more, she looked at home faced with a test of raw speed; mid-field, travelled better than most, headway under 2f out, kept on.

hasn't enjoyed the season her Palace House success suggested she might have, again below par on her first start since Royal Ascot and, though beating plenty in the end, never threatening to get as close as she did last season; raced off the pace, pushed along before halfway, headway under pressure over 1f out, never landed a blow.

wasn't disgraced stepping into a Group 1 for the first time, essentially not up to the job but certainly running better than at Goodwood back at a track when he's got such a good record; in touch, ridden 2f out, one paced.

had put up a high-class performance in the July Cup but dropping back to the minimum trip was more than he could cope with, never looking comfortable faced with a such a test of speed, certainly worth another chance to confirm his Newmarket form back at 6f; pushed along early, close up, ridden soon after halfway, faded approaching final 1f.

A Nunthorpe to live long in the memory as Battaash banished the memory of a couple of disappointing performances in the race with a scintillating display of speed, lowering Dayjur's long-standing course record and running to the sort of figure rarely achieved by a 5f horse, the result in no doubt once he tanked to the front 2f out, in stark contrast the favourite Ten Sovereigns never comfortable faced with such an emphasis on speed for the first time in his career.

BATTAASH (IRE) had been a disappointing fourth in the previous two renewals of the Nunthorpe but righted a few wrongs in scintillating fashion as he once more proved himself a 5f performer out of the very top drawer when he's properly on his game, seen to maximum advantage this time and lowering Dayjur's long-standing track record into the bargain, aided by being towed along by other speedsters on his part of the track to past halfway; tracked pace, headway on bridle around halfway, went on 2f out, asserted soon after, went clear, ridden out; we know he doesn't always produce performances of this level, no Enable or Stradavarius on that score, but in no way should that be held against him when assessing his position amongst the best 5f performers of recent memory.
