proved at least as good as ever to come out on top, knuckling down well having had an ideal trip; chased leaders, challenged on inner over 1f out, led final 1f, just held on; he might be at his best on all-weather (4 from 9 on artificial surfaces, compared to 3 from 20 on turf).

A tight finish but solid form, the first 2 running right up to their best to fight it out ahead of a last-time winner in third; the pace was sound but those held up didn't figure.

LORD RIDDIFORD (IRE) proved at least as good as ever to come out on top, knuckling down well having had an ideal trip; chased leaders, challenged on inner over 1f out, led final 1f, just held on; he might be at his best on all-weather (4 from 9 on artificial surfaces, compared to 3 from 20 on turf).

TOP BREEZE (IRE) ran well and would have won in another stride; mid-division, challenged final 1f, finished well, just failed.

POP DANCER (IRE) ran at least as well in defeat as when winning the time before; in touch, every chance final 1f, ran on.

EL HOMBRE back down in trip, shaped as if still in good form; mid-division, raced freely, effort over 1f out, kept on.

LEODIS DREAM (IRE) went with a fair bit of zest and could take some catching in a race he finds easier to dominate, his mark now 10 lb lower than for his first run of 2020; disputed lead, edged ahead over 1f out, headed final 1f, weakened final 100 yds.

VENTUROUS (IRE) under a penalty, had winning run ended, possibly finding the race coming too soon, though this didn't suit his hold-up style; held up, effort under 2f out, made little impression.

ORNATE wasn't in the same form as last time; disputed lead, weakened last ½f.

VENTURA LIGHTNING (FR) was below form having a belated first go in a handicap; dwelt, made little impression.

ROYAL BIRTH was below form; raced wide, mid-division, raced freely, effort 2f out, faded.
