was right back to his best under a complete change of tactics from Huntingdon, comprehensively reversing form with Djelo on a track that looked tailor-made for him; dominated, jumped accurately and went with enthusiasm, closed down briefly 4 out, kicked on again well before next, in full command there, steadied into 2 out, comfortably; despite his age he'll be a big player in his Ryanair defence on this evidence.

was well backed but couldn't repeat his Huntingdon performance, Protektorat gaining revenge emphatically on a track that suited him far more; not always fluent, settled mid-field, went handy circuit out, shaken up well before 3 out, left behind by winner soon after; it's worth noting that his stable isn't firing at the same rate it was last month.

failed to come on for his reappearance after a further 8 weeks off, though didn't run quite as disappointingly as the distance beaten might suggest; settled in touch, pushed along after 4 out, one paced.

clearly a fragile sort, lost his unbeaten record with a whimper, taken right out of his comfort zone on just his second start over fences on his first outing since leaving W. P. Mullins after 14 months off; dropped out, clouted sixth, no threat after.

after 9 weeks off, made it back-to-back pulled up efforts for the second time in his career, soon done with after his customary major error; chased leader, untidy first, blundered ninth, lost ground next, labouring after 4 out.

On the face of it a freakish performance from a horse who's recently turned 10, and though it's unlikely any of his rivals were near their best and this track was ideal for a strong-travelling, swift-jumping horse, this was one of his best performances whichever way you slice it; the gallop he set soon had a couple well out of their comfort zone and his 3 serious opponents had boiled down to simply old-rival Djelo soon after 4 out, that one put away readily on the long run before the final 3 fences.

PROTEKTORAT (FR) was right back to his best under a complete change of tactics from Huntingdon, comprehensively reversing form with Djelo on a track that looked tailor-made for him; dominated, jumped accurately and went with enthusiasm, closed down briefly 4 out, kicked on again well before next, in full command there, steadied into 2 out, comfortably; despite his age he'll be a big player in his Ryanair defence on this evidence.
