seemingly showed quite a bit of improvement, but while he obviously came on for his reappearance, the extent to which his rider's decision to stay stand side made a difference is hard to gauge, but clearly a factor; led 1f, remained prominent, ridden 3f out, led again 1f out, kept on well; he's not in the Queen Anne, but clearly after this a rather higher grade than anticipated last time will be on the agenda.

ran better than for a while, though his rider's decision to go towards the far side in the last 3f may have cost him victory, going better than the winner at that point and comprehensively beating the other 4 who followed him over; travelled well, led after 1f, ridden over 1f out, headed soon after, one pace.

wasn't disgraced, though perhaps not a surprise that he seemed a little flat after just 2 days off, taking third rather by default; in rear, labouring 3f out, late headway.

twice runner-up in this race, wasn't in the same form as last time, when he'd beaten the winner here, things not unfolding so well for him; held up, effort over 2f out, not quicken.

lightly raced for age, looked in really good shape for his first start of the year and disappointed, admittedly up in grade, finding little; close up, not settle fully, settled mid-field after 2f, shaken up 2f out, weakened approaching final 1f, eased; he was having just the sixth start of his career, so he may yet get back on track, though better was clearly expected here.

gelded since last seen, shaped as if needing the run on first outing since leaving Andre Fabre after 7 months off, placed at this level on his final start last year, but with something to find even on his best form in a stronger race of its type; in touch, shaken up over 2f out, no extra over 1f out, never on terms; he's a strong sort, likely to be back closer to his best with this run under his belt.

A well-matched sextet on paper, a muddling race in practice, the winner seeming to show a fair bit of improvement, though he was the only one to remain stand side after the dogleg, that likely to have been to his advantage as things unfolded.

SOLID STONE (IRE) seemingly showed quite a bit of improvement, but while he obviously came on for his reappearance, the extent to which his rider's decision to stay stand side made a difference is hard to gauge, but clearly a factor; led 1f, remained prominent, ridden 3f out, led again 1f out, kept on well; he's not in the Queen Anne, but clearly after this a rather higher grade than anticipated last time will be on the agenda.
