defied a penalty to complete a hat-trick, off a mark just 2 lb higher after racing from out of the weights last time; prominent, travelled well, led under pressure 2f out, kept on final 1f, had nothing to spare; he'll be back to the sort of mark off which he started the campaign next time.

Grounds for being positive about the principals, the winner well in under a penalty, the placed horses relatively unexposed, though jumping may beckon sooner rather than later for 3 of the first 5.

TORCELLO (IRE) defied a penalty to complete a hat-trick, off a mark just 2 lb higher after racing from out of the weights last time; prominent, travelled well, led under pressure 2f out, kept on final 1f, had nothing to spare; he'll be back to the sort of mark off which he started the campaign next time.

TOP POWER (FR) ran well, though that was despite having a lot of use made of him, perhaps an even better performance there to be unlocked; led, ridden 3f out, headed 2f out, no extra well inside final 1f.

LIGHTLY SQUEEZE after 5 weeks off, ran to a similar level to last time, shaping as if worth a try over further; slowly into stride, held up, pushed along 4f out, still plenty to do 2f out, stayed on, wandered.

CHESTERFIELD (IRE) having a first Flat run since 2013, shaped encouragingly after 10 months off, with a return to jumping in mind, making a promising move forward that petered out as lack of an outing told; held up, shaken up over 3f out, headway over 1f out, no extra well inside final 1f.

AUTUMN WAR (IRE) ran respectably, faring better than he did on soft ground last time; held up, pushed along 3f out, never on terms.

FANNIE BY GASLIGHT was below form after just 6 days off, this a fourth run in under 3 weeks and perhaps one too many; waited with, headway over 3f out, chased leaders 2f out, faded final 1f.

DRAGONS VOICE was below form, little encouragement in his last 3 runs; held up, shaken up over 3f out, made no impression.

SANDYMAN on softer ground than previously, may well not have been suited by that and ran below form; in touch, ridden 4f out, lost place soon after.

CRYSTAL KING was well held, back down in trip but again failing to see his race out, questions to be answered; in touch, shaken up over 3f out, weakened over 1f out.
